Holocaust Memorial Day 2015 –

Today, 27 January, is Holocaust Memorial Day 2015, marking 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Commemorative events will be taking place across the UK today to remember the millions of individuals murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in genocides in Cambodia Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

To mark this significant 70 year anniversary, a candle designed by sculptor Sir Anish Kapoor, is being lit at 70 events across the UK highlighting the diversity of events taking place. Many of the candle locations have been chosen for their historical significance, such as Lowestoft Railway Station where 200 Kindertransport refugees arrived in December 1938. Find out more about where they are here.

Our Moving Portraits will be projected onto the Southbank Centre in London and on Big Screens in Belfast, Bradford, Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Irvine, Portsmouth and Southend-on-Sea.

If you’re holding an activity for Holocaust Memorial Day, no matter how big or small, then we would like to hear about it. Add your event to our website or email enquiriesathmddotorgdotuk  (enquiriesathmddotorgdotuk)  .
