Holocaust Memorial Day 2014 at The Wiener Library – ‘Journeys’

On 27 January The Wiener Library will join hundreds of other organisations across Britain and the world in marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2014. The theme chosen by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust for this year’s British national commemoration is ‘Journeys’. The theme encourages us to reflect on and explore the central importance of forced journeys both before, during and after the Holocaust and as an aspect of other genocides. In response to the HMDT theme vision, The Wiener Library has compiled an exciting programme of free activities which will be running throughout the week.

There are a number of lectures and free events organised by The Wiener Library:

Holocaust - Through the eyes of children

hrough a Child’s Eyes: Holocaust Literature for Young People

Thu 6 February , 1.30pm-5.00pm

This workshop organised in association with Facing History presents an opportunity for educators to consider the use of Holocaust literature and memoirs in the classroom, especially texts written from a child’s perspective. There will be opportunities to discuss and reflect upon the principles that underpin the use of Holocaust literature in teaching, especially that written by and for young people. The workshop will be of particular interest to teachers of English, History, Religious Education and Citizenship.

Please note: a small admission fee applies to this workshop to help cover the costs of the day
