Film & Discussion – Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month

In collaboration the BFI, NIACE – Community Learning Innovation Fund, Westway Development Trust, Eel Productions and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, welcome you on 8th June to BFI Southbank 1 – 5pm for an afternoon of films and discussion to celebrate Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month. The screening shall include films made by community members, providing a very personal and real insight into Gypsy Roma and Traveller culture and heritage.

We are proud to announce that the afternoon shall be hosted by Professor Thomas Acton (OBE). Thomas ran the first Gypsy Council Caravan Summer School in 1967, helped organise the 1st World Romani Congress in 1971, finished his PhD on UK Gypsy Politics in 1974 and until very recently was the Emeritus Professor of Romani Studies at the University of Greenwich. He is a Patron of the Roma Support Group and secretary to the Gypsy Lore Society and Brentwood Gypsy Support Group. He has been a leading light in the world challenging Romani inequality and injustice.

  • Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month

    GRTHM started in Brent in 2001. With endorsement from Parliament in 2007 GRTHM went national in 2008 and is now celebrated throughout the UK each June.
